Myofascial Release

The myofascial system is composed of thick and thin fibers. Your spine is like the mast on a sailboat which acts like an anchor for a large amount of your fascia. This allows your large muscle groups to properly recruit and suspends almost all of your organs in your abdomen. Smaller fascia fibers are more like cobwebs surrounding smaller structures and continuing into the extracellular matrix of every cell of your body!

Myofascial Release (MFR) works to release the deeper layers of the fascia. The fascia is a connective tissue matrix  that extends throughout the entire body and, therefore, Myofascial Release can be performed across the entire body. This technique is helpful for people who may not have had complete relief of their aches and pains from other modalities like massage, STR (soft tissue release) and adjustments.  When performing MFR no massage cream is used and the therapist sinks their hands into your tissue by placing them on your body and holding the pressure until a release of fascia is felt.  It can be 5 minutes or more with slight adjustments of pressure. The sensation and technique is very different from massage or other modalities. The benefits are enhanced over multiple treatment sessions, but you may feel some relief immediately after one session. We recommend drinking extra water after MFR to help flush waste products from your tissue. MFR is available in 30 or 60 minute sessions and multiple sessions may be required to relieve your symptoms.
